Network attached storage (NAS) drives often fail due to poor ventilation, often causing them to overheat, subsequently resulting in cooked hard drives. The damage from overheating drives ranges from malfunctioning PCB’s right through to surface damage on the platters and everything else in between.
NAS devices are usually multiple disk RAID models; however, some manufacturers do produce single disk models, for example, ‘Western Digital My Cloud’ has a range of models that only incorporates a single hard drive.
It is not uncommon for a NAS device to utilise a unique Linux operating system, typically using Extended File System (Ext2/Ext3/Ext4), XFS (Netgear) or ReiserFS file systems. The data is generally wrapped up inside ‘inode data structures’ that are far more complicated than conventional file systems such as NTFS.
These systems can easily become corrupted, often creating challenging recovery cases. Excellent working knowledge of these file systems is essential for high chances of a successful recovery.
Over the previous decade, we have invested heavily in our dedicated Data Recovery laboratory. Separate from our computer diagnostics and repair department, the laboratory is staffed by dedicated, experienced personnel, whose sole purpose is to recover your data. Utilising Ace Laboratories PC3000, DeepSpar Disk Imagers and a class 100 Cleanroom facility - alongside cutting edge tooling - we can offer our customers an affordable, Professional, Data Recovery service. If you have a malfunctioning Network-Attached Storage device, we are suitably experienced and equipped to recover your data from it.
